Finding the root cause of joint pain in knees, hips, and shoulders
Joint pain can feel so crippling. The good news is you don’t have to continue to hurt. Don’t put off treatment and suffer needlessly when pain in your knees, hips or shoulders can be addressed and cured.
Do you wake up sometimes and feel like you’re much older than your years because of joint pain? That’s not a fun way to start the day. Do you walk around feeling like you should be eligible for that seniors discount at your favourite restaurant? Joint pain doesn’t just affect the folks who can get that discount. Regardless of your age, why settle for living with joint pain that makes you feel older or less able?
Is gardening something you love but just hate the pain that follows a good dig in the dirt? I hear you! We can definitely work together to get you back to that younger feeling body by addressing any joint pain you’re suffering.
Over the 30 years that I have worked as a healer, joint pain is one of the main reasons for someone to contact me to start working on their health.
Finding the Root Cause
Pain in the joints can be caused by many things. It is important to find the root cause of the issue. There are four levels of cause: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. I sense what is going on physically in the body, and what is going on in a person’s life emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to get to the root cause.
On the physical level, remedies can heal the bones themselves or other physical causes. Ligaments and tendons as well as the periosteum (the vascular connective tissue covering the bone) can cause pain in the joints.
No, surgery isn’t your only option
People with joint pain are often told by their doctors that there is no cartilage left in certain joints and they are rubbing bone on bone. Joint replacement surgery is recommended. If this is the only method of healing, people often get the surgery after suffering for a period of time. I know I can heal people so they don’t need the surgery.
What is important is to intuit if this is a single joint issue or just the first area showing up with pain. One woman said to me, “You were right!” I asked what she meant. She said, “You told me I needed healing on many of my bones and joints. After I had surgery on my knees, my hips are now giving me trouble.” Also, most surgeries for joint replacement need to be redone after 15 years. People may have great health now for major surgery, but in 15 years that could be a different story.
Another woman contacted me after she had knee replacement surgery on one knee and was scheduled for the same surgery on the other knee. She told me she was already on anti-inflammatory medication and supplements. She wanted to know what I could do for her when she was already being treated. I told her I could make it so she didn’t need the surgery. Her surprise was genuine. Two weeks later, her pain was gone and she had cancelled the surgery. This was faster response to treatment than usual, but I do see very good results with my clients.
Tapping into the Meridians
There are also meridians that go through the joints. Meridians are energy lines understood in Chinese medicine as the lines connected to the major organ systems. Sometimes the issue is not the bones, ligaments or tendons but the meridian. If this is the root cause, my intuitive healing determines the proper remedy relating to the organs.
• For the shoulder, the main meridian is linked to issues relating to the health of the heart. The shoulder issue can be the only symptom of heart issues.
• The knee and ankle meridian is often kidneys. Kidney issues can show up first as knee pain.
• The hip can be related to the gallbladder and the digestion of fats and oils.
Sometimes people contact me when they have joint pain because they already have a family member on arthritis medications and they do not want to choose the same treatment path because of the side effects of the medicine.
Physical symptoms from emotional and spiritual pain
On the emotional, mental and spiritual level, the root cause can be something as simple as moving forward in your life. If you feel unable to move forward freely, the joints can cause pain. By looking at what you feel is not able to progress in your life, we can work on that and feel relief with your joint symptoms. There could be a specific issue going on at the time of the initial pain or injury that could be the key to healing of that area.
Overall, if one joint is in trouble, all the joints could be suspect. It is best to look at all the causes: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual to get complete healing.
