Optimal Fats and Oils
Fats and oils are necessary for our bodies to function properly – they lubricate the lungs and intestines, create better brain function and are the raw ingredients of hormone production in the body. We crave them, but we often hear that fats and oils are detrimental.
Not all fats and oils are bad, but there are certainly some that are. Top of the list of detrimental fats is dairy, margarine and hydrogenated oils (of all kinds), and processed oils like corn (and even canola).
Dairy
Dairy clogs our body: intestines, lymph, lungs, and brain. The clogging leads to cysts and growths in the body. Dairy feeds all bacteria and parasites. So once you have some, you will want lots more! Dairy consumption can lead to a fatty liver. That means the liver function is compromised – the effect being dirty blood, poor digestion, constipation and a compromised immune system. The less dairy you eat, the easier you will breathe. Your intestines will work better.
Try using almond butter and almond milk instead of cheese and milk. You can also find non nut sources of fats to use. Oils like olive oil, coconut oil and Camelina oil are good substitutes for processed vegetable oils. Most of us get enough Omega 6 in our diet, so the Omega 3 fatty acid is of greater benefit.
Camelina oil
Camelina oil is Canadian and made from a seed. It is high in Omega 3, and yet you can cook with it at a high temperature, unlike flax oil. It comes in 3 flavours at various health food stores. If you substitute with healthy fats and oils, your craving for bad fats will decrease and your body will get what it needs from a source that does not cause side effects.
Yes, fats and oils are a necessary part of good nutrition and body health, but I must emphasize not only the best quality but also the low quantity. The ideal amount of fats and oils per day is around 2 tablespoons of each.
